Why Allegiant? Why Youngstown?

First Off I want to say to those in ORH that we already have commercials flying around as well as print ad’s for Allegiant Air. So in case you were wondering we definately got some marketing in full swing.
Back to topic.
Why Fly Allegiant?
- $59 One Way Fares to Orlando-Sanford International Airport
- Inexpensive Parking, I can get dropped off on the 15 minute drive up there or pay the low cost of $25 a week for parking.
- Ease of Access. Once again Route 11 and Route 82 have exits on 193 and Ytown-Kingsville Road, with the new 711 connecting the South Side, it takes 20 minutes or less for most of the area to get to the airport.
- Less Congested. I hate going to an airport trying to get to my gate when there is a 10 minute walk ahead of me with tons of people.
- Security. At CAK its about 5-10 minutes, its about 10-15 minutes at CLE and nearly 15-20 minutes at PIT at certain times, at YNG its less than 5 minutes. Sadly this is our only commercial flight, but on the bright side security is a breeze to fly through.
- Save $$ on Gas. Yes nearby airports have flights to the big Orlando Airport, but does it add up gas wise? I don’t think so. Gas is over $2 a gallon and I’d much rather use less than 1 gallon on a drive to YNG rather than 4-6 to CAK-CLE-PIT.
Best Reason Is This: The TSA and most airports tell you to arrive 90 minutes to 2 hours before your flight, well you can at YNG, but you can still make your flight if you arrive 15 minutes before it leaves the gate. You can’t beat that.
What else can you think of.. Post a comment here and to all haters, do not post because you will be banned from this blog.

Why didn’t you list NASA on the list of airlines. Come on, do you really think continental, usair, and some of those others are going to come to youngstown. I just saw this survey on dems 17 and knew that it had to come from here.
Listen, I am happy for the airport. I am happy for allegiant and think that it will do well here. So will other carriers that only want to serve one or two vacation markets. But business airlines, no way. Big airlines, no way. You may know more than me because you are an airport guy or something, but I have common sense and can’t imagine an airline like that coming to younstown. Again, allegiant is great, but let’s be realistic here.
Why can’t parking be free? That would make it better.
COngrats to YNG… Good to see Allegiant has hit the ground running… I agree with anonymous to an extent..
Secondary airports like YNG, Rockford, ORH really need to position themself as the leisure airport. Business traveler has far too many demands on time for the secondary airports to meet their needs.
Rockford has had alot of luck with the leisure flights to date but failed with the multiple daily flights to Detroit with NorthWest. For now scondary airports should focus on Allegiant/Hooters/USA3000 and maybe a good charter airline.
Thanks Bill for agreeing. Seems like some of the people here think that the airport is going to look like Cleveland Hopkins or Pittsburgh International. They can’t get it. What they need is to be realistic and see the airport for what it is.
I have just read the article from last night’s Tribune about Tsargis stating they should withhold county funds until this idiocy caused by Ready Air is final. Funny, Tsargis doesn’t have a problem jumping on the bandwagon when there is publicity to be had at the airport nor does he have a problem getting on a 737 out of YNG to ACY!
Anything like holding funds now would certainly cause Allegiant to think twice about starting flights out of YNG all because of false ALLEGATIONS from Ready Air!!!
What is it about the psycho people from Youngstown being so obsessed with the idea that there shouldn’t be any airlines using YNG? Are they all from that dems 17 thing??They probably don’t fly anywhere anyway so could care less about the airport getting business. If they think their tax dollars are going to be spent in better ways in Youngstown, think again, have they been? Drive around and look it’s no better looking in Youngstown now than 15 years ago so keeping tax money from the airport is not going to change that!
Learn how to spell people’s names you goof.
I agree with all your comments and have already purchased tickets for 2 flights. It takes 7 minutes exactly for me to get to the airport, the parking isn’t in another part of the city and you are certainly correct about screening. BUT
YNG has superb TSA screeners that do anything in their power to get people on their flights but, I suggest that you shouldn’t recommend waiting til the last 15 minutes because if everyone on an MD80 would do that it would NOT leave on time. They also have gambling charters that leave on Friday afternoons to be screened.
The YNG TSA screeners and Winner Aviation Charter Dept. have an excellant reputation for getting flights out on time and sometimes early, (except for a few Vacation Express flights which was the fault of Sky King Airlines) They like to have everyone screened BEFORE the plane arrives to pick up pax.
And CONGRATULATIONS to Winner Aviation for getting the fueling and ground service contract with Allegiant Air.
How is the airport going to get any money from the airline? Are they going to pay to rent space in the terminal or are they going to pay to use the airport? I heard that we were not giving them any money but are we not paying for marketing or something according to the newspaper. I hope this think really takes off and I hope these people get behind it. We need the airport to turn around. I just hope that it is not too late. I would really like to find out why no one can answer the question about the airline paying any money to the airport. Can you?
Would this airline be here if fuel prices were still an issue? Congratulations to Winner for getting the deal. They must have really lowered their prices. I heard that they are only going to get paid something like 10 cents per gallon to pump the fuel. Look what competition did for the airport. The other guys who fighting with the airport and are complaining did not get the work, but they sure got Winner to lower their prices. Winner is a lot more receptive to dealing with someone now that they have competition.
Would they have tried to charge 70 cents per gallon if they were the only one out there? You never know, but I can guarantee that they would have charged a heck of a lot more than 10 cents. God Bless America and God Bless Competition. It is going to reap a reward to our fine citizens of the valley as well as the airport.
Who ever had the idea to get another gas station out there should be getting a big smack on the back now. Was that someone on the Airport board. I am going to go to the meeting next month and tell them good job. Aren’t the meeting on Wednesday nights? See it was not a failed experiment. It really worked.
