October 2006 Passenger Numbers Posted

October 2006 was a month full of charters, many are due to the tremendous YSU Football team and their opponents. This month featured some nice loads to Atlantic City as well. For whatever reason, the Allegiant Air numbers are not out for either Youngstown or Toledo, but we will be checking often to see if they are released.
15,000 People have used the airport in 2006 up to October, and I do think it will be over 16,000 once we get the Allegiant numbers in for October. This year has been very good for the airport, now it’s time to double those in 2007.

NICE NUMBERS!!! Remember, during the winter the charters are down a little because the old folks stay in more or people like me don’t like being on any plane that needs deiced.
The Latrobe numbers are low because when they leave YNG they pick up the rest of the pax there and then fly to ACY.
GOOD JOB YNG!!!!!!!!
Good news. Here’s to the hope that Allegiant will add more flights.
I did want to throw out the argument right now about Allegiant’s jet’s beign outta of range going to Vegas from Youngstown.
Today their is a charter from Milwaukee to Punta Cana and it is: 2,054 miles.
Youngstown to Las Vegas is 1,638 miles.
An MD-83 for Allegiant can easily make YNG work to Vegas with a full tank, so those aviation experts can throw that argument out.
KEEP COMMENTING.
I know a pilot and he says that each plane that flys has to have enough fuel to make it back to their original point of origin (before they reach a waypoint of no return) and two back up airports that they can land at in case of emergency or weather or what ever, PLUS have enough fuel to circle those airports.
What that means is that when they reach 50% fuel they should have reached their destination and are landing.
Doug that last statement is completely false. Every airline flies to about 15% left in fuel tank if need be. Whoever told you that they need 50% fuel left when they land is false period.
I guarantee it that is how confident I am that your statement is false. This flight alone I mentioned is literally going MAX out to get to Punta Cana, and is going over the ocean water, which is a lot tougher than land.
TOL had Vegas flights and their distance is just a hundred miles or so less than YNG, and they flew it with a full tank and had far less than 50% of a tank left.
YNG
Heard the Allegiant call on my scanner when they left YNG today giving Winner Aviation their numbers……………….149 pax plus one, plus another in the jumpseat. The 2 extra could be Allegiant employees or a pilot or fo run out of hours.
Fact is another full flight!!!!!!!!!!
Great news sidelinesnomore on spreading that on here. I knew it was sold out since you couldn’t buy any tickets online for it. If you can sidelinesnomore, when you do listen in on their call to Winner, write down the numbers they do provide, then maybe you could have a better idea of how things are doing and can inform us!
Doug,
I think Your pilot friend was referring to ETOPS which is only for overwater routes, such as Europe. The airlines don’t carry any more fuel than they have to on each leg. That is more like enough to get their destination and extra to circle or divert. I’ll see if I can get exact numbers on that.
Thanks and I will confirm with my pilot friend who flys a private jet for First Energy. I think he said it was a Lear and they could have seperate rules.
Thanks for your website! The message you sed is that WE can determne the fate of this facility. We need to publish the e-mail addresses of Allegiant’s people who can see we want trips to Vegas etc.
I will continue to monitor your site, I ask you to post to mine…soon I hope that we can provide a feed from yours to http://www.MahoningValleyVoice.com and spread the word…YNG is the place to travel from.
Why doesn’t Bowser talk to Ryan Airlines (RYN) about flying a few charters a month to LAS until he can get a dedicated full time carrier. Ryan does the Atlantic City (ACY) charters with Boeing 737-200 (B732) aircraft now ,but they have also have Boeing 757-200, B737-400 and 800 series aircraft in their fleet that can make the trip to Vegas without any problems.
I think flights to Vegas would do tremendous……c-mon Allegiant…
There are a few charters a year from YNG on Ryan flights. The ones I know of are through Tom Mccloy and used to be with Casino Sales.
YNG,
I’m rarely at home when the Allegiant flights leave and just occasionally happen to hear it. More so when they had the 6:30 pm flights out. will try to remember though when I am home.
Sorry, just checked and although they used to fly from YNG to Las, my card from T-Mac Casino Sales are out of CLE.
Will try to check it out.
Wow, it is nice to see so many posts on this blog. It shows that interest is growing. It was great to see Dan Crouse posting too as we can use input from the real estate community. Keep up the good work and keep the comments coming.
Still wish we could interest another carrier to YNG such as Delta, Spirit, American Eagle or Northwest regional jets. We have the market for it!
Ok, here are two parts of articles that have statements made by Steve Bowser last year in 2006 when talking about having daily airline service at YNG after Allegiant had already started up operations.. I think its time for the local print and TV media to follow up and ask Steve Bowser what the words “soon” and “close” mean?
What happened to the “mainstream” carrier that was soon and close to making a decision?
From the “Tribune Chronicle - June 21, 2006″
WARREN — Talks with major carriers for daily service to the airport are still afloat, even as a restaurant prepares to open at the terminal, officials said.
Steve Bowser, aviation director of Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, said negotiations with the legacy airlines should produce a decision soon. Such talks usually take a year to 18 months, he said.
Airport representatives met Tuesday with county commissioners to keep them abreast of developments at the facility. The airport receives between $600,000 and $700,000 in motel/hotel excise taxes each year from Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
‘‘We’re trying to talk them into giving us daily service,’’ Bowser said of the legacy airlines. ‘‘It’s not easy.’’
Commonly such airlines seek a subsidy of some kind from the airports they serve, he said. Because of Youngstown-Warren’s proximity to the Cleveland and Pittsburgh airports, the local facility can’t qualify for the federal subsidies those larger airports get, he added.
But Bowser said there might be other things Youngstown-Warren can do in place of subsidies. One of those is what he called a ‘‘virtual airport.’’
Under that arrangement, the local facility could offer an airline a flat fee for the services a landing plane normally receives. Such a fee would substantially reduce an airline’s operating costs, Bowser said.
A factor in luring a mainstream carrier is the success thusfar of Allegiant Air, the director said. That has gotten the attention of other airlines, he added.

Major airline considers regular service to Valley
Posted by airlinenews on June 21st, 2006
WARREN — A large airline carrier is close to making a decision on providing regularly scheduled flights out of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, an airport official says.
Steve Bowser, director of aviation, told Trumbull County commissioners Tuesday that he has been in contact with a “mainstream carrier,” and it should be making a decision soon.
“We may be on the radar screen,” he said.
Bowser explained that he is hoping that the success of the airport’s only regularly scheduled airline, Allegiant Air, will help “prime the pump” to demonstrate to the large airline that the airport can provide services.
He pointed out that attracting a regularly scheduled carrier takes time. He noted that Allegiant took one year before making a decision to fly out of the airport here.
Allegiant started flying Mondays and Fridays out of the Vienna-based airport to Orlando, Fla. Bowser said the Mahoning Valley is supporting Allegiant with flights that are 90 to 95 percent full.
Allegiant’s success, Bowser said, is causing it to look at other Florida destinations and perhaps flying to Orlando four days a week.
I flew on the flight on 1-12 and 1-15 to Orlando then back to Youngstown, on a negative note the gentlemen that is in charge of the operation in Youngstown has to be the rudest most ignorant person I have every met. Through the boarding and when I walked through the jet way I felt like I was in prison. He treated me like he was better then me, then when I asked him for a wheelchair for my father, he just stared at me like they had none, then I got to the plane and there was three just sitting there and he wouldn’t even look at me.
Also Sidelinesnomore the numbers might have been like that because there were two allegiant employees on the flight; I have never seen friendlier personnel then these two. I made a joke about how they better be there when my bag came off the plane, and they took this serious and they stood right by me to make sure not only my bags but all the passengers bags came off in perfect condition. I don’t know if they fly on all the flights but if they did I would fly out every week just because they are “in-flight entertainment” and they went above and beyond to make sure me and my bags and arrived in Orlando with no problems. I like what this blog is trying to accomplish and I support it 100%!!!!
wow a strange story
