Terrific Editorial from Sunday’s Vindicator

This was not online for view, so I just scanned it onto my computer for you all to see. I think this is great to see support for the airport from these business owners. We need to get ahold of these men so they know a group of supporters does indeed exist. Here is the editorial. Post your thoughts on it.
I also wanted to say I am trying to put together the 2007 Fly Youngstown page. It will look a bit different with a few nice new additions. I am trying to create a webpage, similar to a petition, in which you can sign your name in support of Vegas flights. This is really just to help this blog and the airport see the enormous support the Valley would have towards Vegas flights.

More letters like this one to the Vindy might spark some interest. A suggestion might be to contact interested people such as those listed in the editorial and keep a data bank of those people asking for time and support on occasion or to seek ways to promote the airport and continue to develop new service. Letters to the Editor are free and only need someone’s time and committment to complete.
Agreed!
I already attempted to contact Mr. Meszaros through his companies website so we will see if he responds. I am still in the process of trying to contact Mr. Travaglini.
I think the secret is the continous flow of creative ideas. Many of you have suggested some. These ideas need now to flow from this blog to the local media and to the airlines themselves. I would first like to ask if YNG has prepared a professional presentation to present to the airlines of their choice. Now that some load numbers from Allegiant provide actual factual data this should be used in a presentation regarding actual passenger load results.
The recent idea about trying to land Fedex at YNG should be pursued seriously. That is a potential revenue stream to any airport. YNG has the vacant UPS ramp and Fedex should be tipped off about this vacant reality IMMEDIATELY even though their interest is in a ground facality and didn’t include an airport ramp. But since it in fact exists it could be a selling point with a phone call to Fedex and tell them about it. Nothing ventured — nothing gained.
Regarding the specific absence of a flight or flights to LAS via Allegiant how about acquring the facts about the route first:
1. The ranges of the Allegiant aircraft.
2. The distance of the route.
3. The load potential of that specific route if it existed. Specifically would the population of the YNG and surrrounding area be AS INTERESTED in this route as they have in the flights to Orlando? Naturally you want to gather some data on the potential loads of this flight.
I am sure Allegiant has already done at least part of this investigation already. A phone call to Allegiant to the right contact could provide these specific facts as well as what it would take to make the flight a reality. They may even say fuel price has been the factor coupled with the edge of the range of the current fleet. OK if that is the reply some questions regarding the recent fuel price decreases could be forwarded along with a general question about future longer range aircraft.
If Allegiant just can’t do this route maybe AirTran CAN PROVIDE THIS SPECIFIC ROUTE. Remember AirTran HAD the range problem as well in the beginning
A poll in the local newspaper to get a feel as to whether the local flying public would support a route to LAS should follow this investigation.
This is what I mean about creative ideas. All of you have some I am sure.
