Ft. Myer’s Service

The other day I booked a flight down to Ft. Myer’s, Florida aboard USA3000 out of PIT. I bring this up because once again, this is another missed opportunity to gain thousands of additional passengers to an area with over 10,000 Youngstowner’s taking a break from the cold winter to stay down there in their warm winter. I know many people on this blog would say: Why Ft. Myer’s? Well it may not be the top destination that people want, but people fail to realize every single flight I’ve ever flown down their has been sold out; whether it be from CLE, CAK, or PIT. The market for those in NE Ohio and W. Pennsylvania is booming and growing; and it’s time for YNG to take note.
Allegiant Air is likely going to announce Ft. Myers (RSW) as their next focus city. RSW has a brand new 36 gate terminal, which in my humble opinion, blows every airport in America out of the water. Yes it is that nice. Just look at these pictures. SO, When Allegiant does announce RSW, I believe Bowser and Co. need to get on their case to get 2 flights a week available out of YNG. It would be an instant success and this flight would really bring people in from Cleveland, Akron, and Pittsburgh to use this flight, considering so many other airlines flights out of those airports are already sold out.
KEEP VOTING IN THE POLL. I SENT AN EMAIL TO STEVE BOWSER TO WATCH THE RESULTS, AND USE THEM TO SHOW ALLEGIANT THAT WE WANT MORE FLIGHTS!

Please add Fort Myers to your flight schedule
RSW would be great also for Allegiant out of YNG. I did book to SFB on Allegiant but had to book Southwest out of PIT to go to Phoenix in a few months. I hate PIT!!!!!!!!
On another note………heard the Allegiant crew again on my scanner yesterday morning and it was 149+1. I think I heard that is always an Allegiant employee going back to Florida.
Great numbers again though!!!!!!!!!
This post was expecially interesting to me becasue I worte a very similar comment a couple of weeks ago. Ft. Myers is a hot market. I have flown there many times and have had the same experience- sold out all of the time- cheap non-stop tickets not easy to come by. SW Florida is an essential destination for snow birds and winter/spring vacationers. I believe that service to Ft. Myers or Tampa or St. Pete or Sarasota would be a hit in the Valley- also W. PA and CLE/Akron/Canton.
Thanks for the updates Sidelines. BTW: Chuck was over at the Mah. Valley Voice and posted some passenger loads that I find VERY HARD TO BELIEVE. Saying just 79% in Nov. and 69% in Dec.
First off it’s a conflict of interest for Chuck to know this kind of airport info, but regardless: I don’t believe him one bit.
I will make sure I get all the facts straight Thursday. November numbers will be posted this Thursday, and I plan to post them by then.
Chuck would know the load factors because he works for Winner. It is not a conflict. Winner has a right to know and it would be very easy to figure out for yourself if you paid attention to the calls from Allegiant when they leave.
Bring on Allegiant to any city in Florida. Personally I would love to see a direct flight or connecting flight to West Palm Beach. With over 1,000,000 residents in Palm Beach County and the 4th most affluent county in the USA, I would think many NE Ohio residents would support it. Being a seasonal resident of West Palm Beach area, I have met many many people from NE Ohio here and the direct flights here from Cleveland and Pittsburgh do well. Palm Beach International Airport is an outstanding and beautiful facility comparable to Southwest Florida.
I still think YNG needs to agressively pursue Spirit Airlines. What can we do to attract Allegiant for added flights or another carrier for new service? Together we can.
YES- Spirit is a great idea.
I think the real airline to be going after to get RSW (Ft. Myers,FL) service is USA3000. They already have established service to RSW. They are very similar to Allegiant in that they provide scheduled service but not on a daily level. YNG cannot compete with CAK having daily service via Air Tran to RSW. But if you look at the service that is being offered in PIT and CLE via USA3000, it would seem a natural fit for YNG to have atleast one flight a week. I would even settle for having onestop via PIT or CLE just to get the service started.
just heard today’s numbers from Allegiant…………..133+4. I just type them as I hear them!
So 133 and 149, not bad for a weekend, now if we can stay around that 91% average!.
Add two 150s for each of Fridays flights, and that is a 97% average! Friday’s flights are a complete sell out; yes its that Daytona week.
Guys,
Remember that those sow birds don’t read BLOGS. Fire off a letter to the editors of the Trib and Vindi. I am surprised that they will print a nice, concise letter…they did mine.
