January 2007 Passenger Data Up!

Wow, what a difference a year can make! January’s flight data is up 444% from 2006 to 2007! I guess Allegiant is doing us a favor and all, it’s amazing to see a 444% increase!!!! *bad sarcasm.*Read here.

All this means is this airport was doing horrible last year, and is back to being just mediocre right now. I mean in all honesty, they are doing bad out there because they have FAILED to secure additional flights via Allegiant; and they are allowing every airport that competes with YNG to advertise heavily in the Youngstown media.

Enough said. I want the best for that airport; but I don’t see it happening right now. Comment- PLEASE!

1st off I hate the new site colors, its very hard to read and post comments.
Anyway in case you didn’t hear yet, FL is adding nonstop LAS service to DAY, FNT, ROC,and CAK effective 08/15, fares will start at $99 each way.

First off, use a real email address when you post; or I will delete your comments.

Secondly, the colors aren’t changing, end of story. Most people like them, I can’t please everyone.

Third, great for CAK, etc. Another failed chance by YNG to get service to LAS… Throw that out in the trash now!

I like the colors. People should stop being picky. There are more problems in the world then colors.

The YNG airport really needs to get on the ball here. Have you tried/considered trying to get the news stations to run a informative story?

Another summer traveling season is rapidly approaching and still no way to get “anywhere from Youngstown”. Not even a word about an airline thinking about starting service. It’s time to let go of the wishful thinking around here. Youngstown airport is what it is! As long as the surrounding airports continue to add new service and increase flight frequencies, plus constantly advertising “their airport to fly from” on ALL of the Younsgtown local media sites…..daily airline flights from here will never happen again. Sad but most likely true. I don’t think the local news and print media even care to investigate as to why the lack of activity and airline flights.
My guess is that Allegiant will pull out of here before years end. You wanna go to Vegas?…better fuel up the car and drive west….Akron-Canton airport wants your business and has the service to get you “anywhere from here”

Why is Allegiant going to leave? I thought their flights were over 80% full?

  6. on April 21st, 2007 12:58 am

I haven’t heard or read any talk of Allegiant leaving Youngstown. I have read on other airline BBS that Allegiant doesn’t usually stick around in a market if the passenger loads are less than 80%. The point I’m trying to make is that once the “disney pool” of flyers starts to evaporate…..so will the flights. Hopefully, the valley will continue to scroung up enough people to keep the flights going. Hearing the news that Air Tran is going to startup Las Vegas service again from Akron-Canton is a huge missed oppertunity for Allegiant and the Younsgtown airport.

Add to what “View_from_above” has stated airlines not serving will look at the results of an airline that is serving and form conclusions from that info. I don’t know if I have mentioned this on this blog before but I had heard that a representative of an airline that was not serving FNT was counting how many passengers were boarding and deplaning flights to aid in this gathering of info. This is something we don’t think about.

For example if you or I debate with AirTran to provide service to LAS for example they might say, “Currently Allegiant is only drawing under 80%.” We (AirTran) have to do better than that to justify service. So in essence outsiders will look at what is current and real right now.

It seems that we have all been excited at the start of Allegiant here in Youngstown and the hope after hope, promise after promise that additional service will be provided by Allegiant and/or other airlines no matter the size. Blah, blah, blah…. If we can’t get the media and business involved and put more demand on the WRPA, nothing is going to happen. We get excited here. We share in the enthusiasm and then read about other local airports adding service or communities and airports smaller than the Youngstown market getting new and or added service. Nothing seems to be changing for us. I will continue to pay $3.00 a gallon to drive to CAK, CLE, or PIT to fly where I want to go and pay the daily parking fees. We need to be more agressive and make noise or give up and once the Disney followers are done can watch Allegiant take their two flights a week to another new market for a few years.

We don’t need 2 flights to Disney or one to Las Vegas. We need airline service that can take us to many more destinations. We need a Delta Connection to Cincinnati or Atlanta. We need a Spirit to Detroit. We need a US Airways express to Charlotte or even better, we need AirTran!

It seems that we are all losing hope, and I really can understand that. YNG Just failed to gain service to the #1 destination out of Youngstown.

I’d love to see Steve or Chuck come promote SFB now on this blog, because they can’t. And quite frankly, I may take that Allegiant ad off my site too….. As a boycott until I can add PIE or LAS to it.

  10. on April 22nd, 2007 8:54 pm

Wait…so in order to gain MORE service, you’re going to boycott the only service at YNG in protest? How does that make sense, AND how will it help the airport get more service?

  11. on April 23rd, 2007 6:35 am

Ben, I don’t know why you come on here to instigate crap; but you are and it got to stop; or your comments will be deleted.

The airport should not rely on MY BLOG to survive. That Allegiant Air ad I put up there was a FAVOR, go look that up in the dictionary and see what that means. I don’t have to leave that ad up if I don’t want to, and right now I do not want to leave it up.

Why should I continue to promote 2 flights a week; when everyone and their brother knows we should have more flights to more cities.

YNG’S MANAGEMENT IS FAILING; PERIOD. They refuse to talk to this blog, so I refuse to give it free advertising.

Who said I was instigating? You’ve been the airport’s biggest cheerleader for quite some time- and although I agree that YNG needs some sevice to eastern hubs, with three major airports in a 1 1/2 hour area, it’s logically going to take more time to draw any air carriers to YNG. Should the officials be working harder? Yes. Should they talk to you? Yes. But forming “boycotts” because more service isn’t coming fast enough just doesnt make sense to me.
