YNG Fails to gain Additional Summer Flight

Once again YNG failed to gain a 3rd flight for the summer of 2008. According to Airliners.net:
From Orlando-
Des Moines - flight on Tuesday
Ft. Wayne - flight on Wednesday
St. Louis Mid America - flight on Tuesday
I don’t know why 95% loads aren’t enough to please Allegiant. I am told most of our sales come within the actual month that people fly; so I guess loads aren’t looking that strong for a 3rd flight come summer; but we will end up with 90% + loads.
I don’t get it. Passenger numbers coming in 2 days. My apologies for the lack of updates; I ran out of things to write!

I think YNG has proven itself to handle a third flight to Orlando or add service to St. Pete. Has anyone had any luck contacting Allegiant? Would be curious to know their reasoning. WE NEED REGULARLY SCHEDULED SERVICE IN ADDITION TO VISITS TO SEE MICKEY MOUSE…..
hey guys I know this is a bit off topic but its sad to see PIT loose 5 cities that US airways is dropping non-stop flights to…seattle, san deigo, baltimore, buffalo, and martinsburg. and slashing daily service to chicago, erie, toronto, syracuse, albany, providence, newark, philly, indy, and new york LGA. its a sad day for the city US Airways is the anchor at PIT without US Airways the airport will loose over half of daily operations. and the city will suffer from lower income. but its sad to see…anyone care to comment?
just wanted to add i came across something very interesting… on burkelakefront.com under the word airlines it reads they only currently have destination one flying to detroit city, cincinatti lunken, kiawah island SC, and hilton head SC. and says they have plans to expand service in the future. but the interesting part? under other airlines it reads they have space for 3 other airlines such as JETBLUE!!! and reads jetblue does not service cleveland just imagine if burke lands jetblue?? crazy so check that page out and read for yourself!
It is a real shame what US Airways did to Pittsburgh. Thousands of jobs are gone from there and they built a beautiful terminal to meet US Airways demands and needs. I know that Pittsburgh is like Cleveland and Youngstown and not a city with much growth going on but to bad another carrier woudn’t make PIT a hub city with such an outstanding facility. I have recently flown out of PIT and it is so sad to see a big airport like that with 5 jets at 100 gates. US Airways facilities at Philadelphia are such a joke as is the airport while PIT sits half empty. I fly often and not many airports are anywhere nearly as nice as Pittsburgh International.
Chase-
Have you ever been down to Us Airways’ other hub down here in Charlotte?
If so, what if your opinion of our facilities?
I volunteer at the airport up to eight hours some weekends and would love to have some passenger feedback on the terminal.
Drew
ya, PIT commited to US Airways but US Airways turned their back on PIT!. I liked flying with US Airways from pittsburgh because they had non-stop’s to almost every city without large crowd’s and security lines. And people will say ya they can’t compete with jetblue, southwest, airtran etc. and thats crap because there have been many times the low-cost airlines were more then US Airways prices!
Returning to the topic at hand. The question that ChaseOH stated at the beginning is the right one:
“Has anyone had any luck contacting Allegiant? Would be curious to know their reasoning”.
Drew, I fly into and out of Charlotte a few times a year as well as connect when on US Airways. It is a very nice airport although the walk from the commuter gates to concourse “A” can be a little haul! I have sat and enjoyed the piano in the center of the airport and appreciate the volunteers that walk around providing information and/or assistance to passengers. I would guess my only fault with Charlotte Douglas is the fact there are no restaurants or fast food areas before security check-in. There are plenty once you pass through but while waiting with others prior there is, I think, only one coffee vendor. My favorite place is the bar in the commuter concourse! You must have a fun and interesting job there!!!
Allegiant knows that YNG needs Allegiant more than Allegiant needs YNG. So, why would they have to do anything more to make the administration of the airport happy.
I understand that the loads are good, but why change it when it is working.
UNLESS YNG gets another airline in there to make sure that the airport qualifies for the FAA funds, they can’t even threaten to pull the marketing money away from Allegiant. TO summarize, Allegiant has them by the tail.
i just seen an article in airports magazine you can check it out at barnes and noble allegiant air is now flying to 2 mexico destinations from I believe it may have been detroit? it was somewhere near ohio though, but they are using MD-88 jets maybe bought from delta? but allegiant is entering the international market it so seems… but i’m not sure if it was charter flights on tuesdays or if it was scheduled service I didnt read the whore article sorry.
There is no doubt they are charters.
Randy,
I found out today that Destination One has already gone out of business and no longer flies from Burke Lakefront Airport. According to Wilikapedia the airlines stopped flying from Burke in the fall of last year. I knew they started, I didn’t even know they stopped. I also believe that the developers have finally persuaded the city government of Cleveland that they should look into closing BKL. I heard on the radio a while ago that the city was going to do a masterplan on the airport to decide if it’s really needed. It’s funny because there is an FBO operation at the Cuyahoga County Airport that wants a longer runway there. They are already going to have a fight with their airport neighbors that will lose their homes if there is an expansion there. The runways are already long enough at Burke. I don’t understand why they can’t move part of their operation there…but I digress.
Also, I know that Allegiant is the only the game in town but there is a little airline called Southern Skyways that is looking for people that want to fly to Myrtle. They couldn’t get enough from Cincy and Allentown maybe you guys can go after them.
The experts say that there is overcapacity in the airline industry. I would love to see the USAToday do another article on the number of airports that have lost commericial service since 9/11. What overcapacity? Sure, you’re going to have overcapacity when you have 8 regional jet flights a day between CLE and DFW on the same airline when you could do just as well or better with just 4 mainline flights.
On the lighter side of the news, when is Delphi going to leave bankruptcy?
hey thanks for that info on destination one I never knew they stopped. But as far as them shutting down Burke. I think the FBO’s would have a fit! and the runway is over 6500ft long. But I understand where they come from due to the fact the terminal is very small. But however its used heavy during cleveland Browns games last year after a game they had at least 10 private jets on the taxiway for takeoff. Not to mention the team charter planes that you see regularly. as far as Delphi I have no idea. But thanks for all that info CAKLIVES
Chase-
Thanks for the feedback- I agree, the walk from “E” to “A” can be a bit of a walk- trust me, I just got home from an eight hour shift and I am EXHAUSTED! I can agree with what you said about the issue the airport is facing with food services- It seems that the post 9/11 airport administration has been slow to add more food outside of security- primarily I believe because they just wouldn’t get the business they need. The airport has, as you mentioned added that coffee chain and a cold deli sandwich place in baggage claim.
I’m glad to hear you’ve seen a few of my fellow volunteers out their working- we’ve had the program for two years this January and most people really love it and think its a wonderful touch to the services the airport already provides (the rocking chairs, business center, and bathroom attendants.)
by the way anyone see the Miami Air boeing 737-800 fly into YNG last night? it was here only about an hour or so last night cargo but still nice to see a 737-800 at YNG.
why dont you guys put up a fly youngstown myspace? it would be neat many people have them so why not?
Personally because myspace is for teenagers and for their social lives. This blog is not a teenager and is not looking to have a social life.
And o yeah; I will never make a myspace; never have planned on it, and never will do it.
to be totally honest…people have setup groups on myspace that draw very well the mahoning valley thunder has a page.
I understand Randy…. but that is an arena football team. The thing is we don’t have “fans” for an airport blog.
Maybe just find ways to get this blog in the public. How can we get it in the newspapers or media coverage? I have enjoyed reading the comments here and the more the better.
YNG, I have talked to this guy named mike hillman…I guess hes a flight instructor/part owner in this western reserve flight school. I told him im interested in taking a tour and he said no problem, so i’m going to meet with him maybe next week sometime. But hes also a charter pilot for winner? he had a charter flight today to chicago on their King Air 100. But he also said they are getting a Learjet 35A. I am going to try and remember my digital camera and take airport/winner/plane photo’s if you would like to see or post them.
By the way…
Skybus started service today from Columbus.
I want to go to vegas this fall and would love to fly from YNG so when can we expect service anyone hear anything?

When I posted the Allegiant story above on A-Net I included this question:
Any chance on Allegiant adding to their existing service at YNG?
