YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, announced a grant award of $150,000 from the Department of Transportation to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. “I’m pleased the community will be able to improve its airport services through these vital funds,” Voinovich said in a press release issued Friday. The money will be used to acquire safety equipment, install airfield guidance signs, rehabilitate airport aprons and remove obstructions from roads. Voinovich is a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee.

Voinovich [R] is really backing YNG in their efforts for the SCASD Grant, let’s hope the DOT see’s his commitment and awards YNG that grant as well.

well thats a huge boost in helping to land a legacy airline lets all hope for the SCASD grant now!
I love the competing interests… Tim Ryan also “announced” the award yesterday.
“I am proud to announce the $900,000 grant to the port authority and to Youngstown-Warren airport,” said Congressman Tim Ryan. “I pledge to continue working for the airport’s needed resources but also look forward to working with the Port Authority on broader economic development projects throughout the Mahoning Valley.”
How did Voinovich announce $150,000 and Ryan $900,000?
These are two COMPLETELY different grants YoungstownPride. One is for small things around the airport runways and taxiways, this grant for more the completion of a perimeter fence as well some other things.
Voinovich’s grant was expected, if you read the airport meeting minutes; you will see Tim Ryan’s grant was expected for the last few months; it really is a mandatory grant for YNG to receive because until that fence is finished, we won’t get any funds for any other airport project.
thank you for getting rid of the black background
just wanted to say my heart goes out to all the friends, family, and crew of TAM flight 3054…..RIP to the 176 passengers and crew onboard, a very sad day for aviation once again….just a grim reminder of how quick ones life can be gone.
Just wondering….what roads are obstructed and by what? Are we talking tree pruning? It will be nice when we can talk about the fence being completed and moving on to more major enhancements at YNG. I spoke to a friend of mine from Rochester who traveled Allegiant to Fla. He has family connections in west Pa. for those wondering why he would fly from here. Anyway, he was impressed with the aircraft and had a pleasant flight, but was wondering when major enhancements would be done to the terminal. Another flight (charter) was boarding to Atlantic City when he took off from YNG and it made for many people having to stand. He suggested we needed to expand the terminal and add a few more jetways to be considered a “real” airport.
Of course I agree with my friend. The question is how long before we are on that course to major enhancements?
Randy, I too echo your sentiments regarding TAM 3054.
It just so happens the charter’s and Allegiant flights are on the same day and same time each week. Until we get more commercial flights and airlines here; flying bigger jets, we won’t see an expansion.
Two things: Gate 3 has room for a jetway that could jet out toward the West, I was told it was apart of the original expansion plans back in the late 1990s. The other thing is they are purchasing new and additional seating for the terminal gating area. I still don’t wonder why they don’t just open up the hallway for the ground level gates and put some seats in there.
Let’s get Bowser on here and find out from him!
