Chat #2 Archive : Bowser Talks

We had a very productive chat tonight with Steve Bowser. We discussed about 4-5 topics in our hour long chat tonight. Steve was not aware of our Rally for YNG campaign and wants to look into it and talk more about it. He likes the idea of a Fly with convenience slogan for YNG as well. Steve will begin emailing me about a possible campaign for YNG by the community and for the community, but we want to see if we get the SCASD first. Click Below to read the ENTIRE Chat Archive.

Who Says YNG Can’t Compete Head-On with CAK-CLE-PIT???

Story out of Rockford, IL on how the airport has grown drastically in just 5 years!

Link: Name changed Helped Chicago Based Airport

quote:

“The airport went from a passenger count of about 1,400 in 2002, when O’Brien started with the airport, to more than 230,000 this year, he said, with the name change occurring in phases through those years.

He expects to eclipse the 300,000 passenger count next year, but O’Brien said changing the name was only a small part of that.

“It starts first with convincing the airlines. When we’re trying to sell them on RFD, they’re staring at us like, ‘You live in the shadow of the world’s busiest airport and you’ve got no passenger service, what are you nuts?’ ” O’Brien said. “We said, ‘I don’t want you to start service to Rockford, Illinois, I want you to start service to Chicago-Rockford, a backdoor to 13.1 million people.’

O’Brien said the airlines slowly but surely responded to that notion, and as the airport grew to offer non-stop service - first to domestic destinations like Orlando and Las Vegas, and now to vacation spots like Cancun the community got on board, no matter what they called the facility.”

You can not tell me YNG can’t do what RFD has done in the past 5 years. With aggressive campaigning by the airport and the community, as well as providing #’s on paper to what the Valley wants in air service, I truly believe we can make YNG grow!

2012 Passenger Number Goal: 150,000 - Expanded Allegiant Service, 2nd LCC, 1-2 Legacy Carriers

Chat #1 Archive

In this week’s chat, we discussed the Airport and it’s lack of getting participation from the local community to drum up support for the airport, as well as discussion of the SCASD, and even some misc. discussion of Allegiant and other nearby Airports. We had about 10 or so people come in and out to chat with us tonight, and have heard from Steve Bowser that he will take part in next week’s chat; so we will have a chat NEXT WEEK, not in 2 weeks.

Bad News Again: YNG not to get flights to FLL or IWA :(

From Vindy.com

VIENNA — Though the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is “always talked about” and “on the bubble” to receive additional flights from Allegiant Air, the airport won’t receive any of the new service to Fort Lauderdale or Phoenix being announced this year.

Steve Bowser, the airport’s director of aviation, said he has learned the local airport is not one of the 11 Allegiant markets getting service to Fort Lauderdale starting Nov. 14 or one of the 13 markets that will get flights to Phoenix starting Oct. 25.

The Las Vegas-based low-cost airline makes flights twice per week to Sanford International Airport outside Orlando from the local airport, though service has been suspended through Nov. 9 during the slowest part of the Orlando tourist season.

Time to Really Make this Blog Shine!

 -new link : www.yngair.com-

For the past 22 months I have ran a very successful blog called the Fly Youngstown Blog. Over time we have watched the airport go from being a ghost town to watching it really start to take off in a positive direction. This blog itself has really been the main provider in the Valley for news revolving the airport, and although that is an honor for this site, it’s ashame the local media does not do more to cover the airport.

Yesterday on 21 WFMJ, Glenn Stevens did a report on the Blogs in Youngstown; and guess what, we were not mentioned, despite us being one of the oldest blogs in this valley, second to Defend Youngstown. I personally wasn’t upset about not being mentioned, but I think a lot of it has to do with the airport and how it’s really not roaring back like Downtown Youngstown. YES…. What we cover is very very unique to the blogosphere and I want to keep it that way; but I’d also like the Valley to know that we are working for them, not just for the airport.

Anyways it’s time to make this blog shine. Over the coming weeks it will be a busy time for me, especially with my coverage of Youngstown State football over on our sister site: www.guinzone.com; but I do plan on really making an effort to have the best coverage of any blog in the Valley of the main subject that we talk about–The Airport!

I want to thank all of you for helping make this the great success that it has been since the days of posting on Blogspot, to the days of posting on the awesome blog software Wordpress! Let’s really strive to make the best effort we can possibly do as citizens to make this airport a success!

Coming This Week:
->Coverage of the Allegiant Air announcements to Ft. Lauderdale
->Coverage of the 2007 SCASD Results, which we are expecting any day now!

Continue the Rally for YNG!

So far the campaign has a solid response with over 1000 votes in just about 3 days; with less than 3 days until Allegiant announces their first destinations for Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale. What we need to do is get Steve Bowser and Co. make this Grassroots effort an OFFICIAL Airport Campaign and get the word out on the news and in the newspaper by Thursday. What we plan on doing is contact Tyri Sqyures of Allegiant Air with the preliminary results early Thursday morning and work from there. We may not get these flights, but the ultimate goal is to show the execs at Allegiant Air see that WE ARE DEMANDING FOR ADDITIONAL FLIGHTS!

The second thing is YESTERDAY was the last Allegiant Air flight from Youngstown to Orlando-Sanford for 3 THREE 3 Months! Yes, it will be 90 days from now and probably snowing before we see another Allegiant Air jet touchdown at YNG. This shows the sad state of the airport and is a grim reality of how little has been done to get additional flights at YNG. We need more flights, and we need to pray that Allegiant looks closely at our poll and comments and that we get the $800k for flights to a hub!

Please Comment and KEEP VOTING!!!
