VIENNA — Though the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is “always talked about” and “on the bubble” to receive additional flights from Allegiant Air, the airport won’t receive any of the new service to Fort Lauderdale or Phoenix being announced this year.
Steve Bowser, the airport’s director of aviation, said he has learned the local airport is not one of the 11 Allegiant markets getting service to Fort Lauderdale starting Nov. 14 or one of the 13 markets that will get flights to Phoenix starting Oct. 25.
The Las Vegas-based low-cost airline makes flights twice per week to Sanford International Airport outside Orlando from the local airport, though service has been suspended through Nov. 9 during the slowest part of the Orlando tourist season.

Its going to take a two pronged effort to get any flights. Why you ask. Here why right from the top.
A Brief Word From Maury Gallagher - CEO/President Allegiant Travel Company

1. Local Support
2. Efforts of your airport management team.

This is how RFD did it:
RFD Lands Two New Destinations!
A BIG thank you to everyone who particiapted in our “I Pledge Allegiant!” campaign. Because of your support, Allegiant announced last night that RFD will begin service to Phoenix-Mesa on November 16 and service to Fort Lauderdale on December 14. Check out their low introductory fare specials at http://www.allegiantair.com.
We received over 2,100 “votes” for Phoenix on our blog page and over 1,400 for Fort Lauderdale. Over 300 people mailed us their “I Pledge Allegiant!” support form and 320 faxed in their support.
Somehow, someway, we need to get Bowser and Co. on this blog!!!
Great effort yngair raising awareness and getting the response you did going into the announcement. I am most disappointed in the news as I am sure most are. I agree with you that we need to get everyone on the same page to get YNG where it needs to be.
Continue the fight yngair! Every great cause has its cost! We’ll get there.
I think YNGAir has the community beginning to take part now as indicated by the numbers of participants in the recent info draw for service selections.
Now all this is LACKING is acknowledgement of the these specific community air service wishes from the airport management. According to the guy in my earlier post above:
2. Efforts of your airport management team.
They have to be participants as well. A press conference now and then might be a good thing.
I am happy about the support, but I am not happy that we did not get any new flights with our efforts at this moment.
I will be adding a Blog Chatroom this weekend for a weekly or bi-weekly chat which will be archived to the blog. It is my hopes that Bowser and Johnson come on it this week.
Thanks!
