We had a very productive chat tonight with Steve Bowser. We discussed about 4-5 topics in our hour long chat tonight. Steve was not aware of our Rally for YNG campaign and wants to look into it and talk more about it. He likes the idea of a Fly with convenience slogan for YNG as well. Steve will begin emailing me about a possible campaign for YNG by the community and for the community, but we want to see if we get the SCASD first. Click Below to read the ENTIRE Chat Archive.

[ytown [anthony]] 9:07 pm: go ahead and reply steve. I want to go with an organized approach to discuss… First Topic: Allegiant Air and the news that YNG is not on that list to get new flights….. Steve can you tell us why we aren’t getting new flights… is it the yields?

[steve] 9:10 pm: thats understood, bottom line is this — we are in a highly competitve market, nearly all legacy carriers have a presence but some demographics are working in favor for some movement and as we all know th industry has changed - accomodating more LCC, we are now communicating with carriers that did not have interest in past. Sorry guys - I’m not the fastest typist.

that YNG is not on that list to get new flights….. Steve can you tell us why we aren’t getting new flights… is it the yields?
[ysu9019] 9:12 pm: The all outdraw on select nights regions such as New York City, Albany New York Staten Island etc etc…

[george] 9:15 pm: I was looking forward to flights to Ft. Lauderdale and was very much dissappointed to find out we are not going to get them.

[steve] 9:15 pm: regarding Allegiant - yields are a big factor, probably the most important for them as a new publicly traded co. I know you have heard this already but even though our loads are in the upper end the yields are only average at this time although they have increased. They are placing their inventory where they feel will make the biggest impact.
[flyinryan] 9:16 pm: I think both YNG and TOL are in the the same boat….hit by a bunch of outside forces they couldn’t control
[ytown [anthony]] 9:17 pm: So perhaps if they raised there fares to 89 one way to start, something comparable to CAK and advertised here about their convience, could that help their cause in adding more flights. figuring they’d make more on ticket prices being higher

[flyinryan] 9:22 pm: ahh ok…i wasn’t sure if they shared the average vacation package they sell on a flight. I have a feeling that’s a reason why TOL has seen a lower amount of SFB flights this year over last

[george] 9:23 pm: Steve. Let me come straight out and say in the next 6 months… What is the chance that we get more flights with Allegiant??
[steve] 9:27 pm: I have a meeting coming up in early October - I feel confident that if we can maintain loads with sustained yields we will get additional flights. Alot will depend on what kind of bookings we have between now and restart in Nov.
[ytown [anthony]] 9:27 pm: Additional Flights you say… To Orlando???? Or will we finally get some new cities to fly to, because you know not everyone, like myself, wants to go to Disney!
[flyinryan] 9:29 pm: This is just my thought and has no real basis to it. I think Allegiant holds TOL, YNG, and other places like FWA in their back pocket…what I mean by that is they know they can easily fill the flights if they need cash flow.
[flyinryan] 9:30 pm: but what they are currently focused on are profits to bring in more investment to go out and potentialy get a new longer ranged aircraft
[george] 9:30 pm: yes steve… i myself have a condo in miami, flights to FLL would be perfect for me…. i want flights to cities OTHER than SFB
[steve] 9:31 pm: I am pushing other destinations but must be careful not to discount SFB. Another leg to SFB helps the program. I have and will continue to push for LAS.
[george] 9:32 pm: Alright time for Topic 2: WHAT IS THE LATEST ON THE SMALL COMMUNITIES AIR SERVICE GRANT??? Any idea if we will get the money Steve?

[flyinryan] 9:33 pm: I think if times were to get tougher for them they could easily add capacity to certain markets in order to increase cash flow, and I think YNG could easily take in one or 2 more flights during peak seasons
[steve] 9:34 pm: I check for award announcements like you, Daily - I would have thought that it would have been announced by now
[ytown [anthony]] 9:35 pm: yes the latest i saw was BY Stepember 1st…… What airline is the frontrunner to pursue, if we get the grant, and what destionation
[george] 9:39 pm: i’d love to see 3-5 flights to atlanta or chicago or dc myself
[steve] 9:40 pm: I really can’t say as of yet - I don’t want to potentially undermine current discussions - I will say that the SCASD grant is going to be an important tool but when its all said and done it will be the loads and yields that will make this work - marketing this service will be key.

[ytown [anthony]] 9:43 pm: TOPIC 4: This is the Big One…. I am sure you heard 2 weeks ago of our RALLY FOR YNG campaign to get more lfights with allegiant. it had 2500+ votes… but we want to do something similiar and officially sponsored by the airport to get more flights!!!
[AllegiantAirAgent] 9:45 pm: i saw that campaign u guys had for our carrier… too bad it wasnt a success, but i dont make the decisions.. 2500 is mroe than some cities got in their campaigns.

[george] 9:48 pm: Yes Steve.. we need to work together like the gary airport does with their supporters. chats like this are key. but the final product is all that matters… i like anthony’s idea of a campaign of targeting an airline, or perhaps a specific destination

[steve] 9:54 pm: Ok, first lets see how SCASD is awarded. Second lets see how discussions go with Allegiant. Both these will determine our approach. We all want the same thing. in the mean time we need to outline what approach we believe will be a successful campaign.
