Step 1: Preliminary Airline Discussions Have Begun
QUOTE: Bowser said he spoke with an airline last week about service to Youngstown-Warren, and those talks will continue. It has not had a strong presence in this region like Continental Airlines in Cleveland and U.S. Air in Pittsburgh, he said.
The airline said it needs to do $2 million worth of business here in a startup period to turn a profit, the director said. Two other airlines had cited figures of $3 million and $5 million, Bowser said.
This quote is from an article in today’s paper from the Warren Tribune Chronicle. If you want to read it, simply click the Read More Link at the end of this post. The article states some promising news that the airport has begun to talk in the very early stages with a carrier to fly daily service out of YNG, a carrier that has not had a major presence in the region (US-Air and Continental can be crossed off the list, and a carrier that is not looking for subsidies via the $800,000 SCASD grant proposal to start up operations. What the carrier is looking for is $2 million dollars worth of profit via local business travel. For this to work, the area businesses need to step up and work hand in with Steve Bowser to find what destionation(s) are the most wanted by local business professionals.
This is great news from YNG!

Breaking News: Marketing Director Hired at YNG
Some people are going to read the title and ask, “Why is this breaking news?” Well it’s such a hot story for this blog to hear that someone was actually hired as a marketing director to help in the airport’s efforts to entice airlines to come to YNG.
All I know is the Port Authority, at their monthly meeting, hired someone in a marketing role at YNG. I do NOT believe it is Vic Rubenstein. I can’t comment anymore on it until I find out more information. It is my hope that this position will be a Permanent one at the airport! We can really help this guy out with our ideas folks!
We will have more on this tomorrow as the papers spread the good news on the story! It is going to be our hope to now have Steve and the new marketing director in our chat next week to throw out some ideas; including the slogan this blog is pushing…. Fly with Convenience at YNG!
Could RTI News Actually Help YNG?
Tribune Chronicle News Article
Yesterday, RTI Titanium officials said they are going to consider to move their exec. headquarters elsewhere citing that their is a lack of flights nationwide out of the local airport. One may also believe that it has been costly for the 7th fastest growing company in the USA to ship all their goods out of CAK-CLE-PIT airports. RTI has a deal to provide metal parts for the brand new AIRBUS A-380; yes the monster jet!
In the article above Steve Bowser has some positive news, which I am going to do all my to find out more information on. Steve states, “The Western Reserve Port Authority and airport staff are working continuously to re-establish daily air service to Youngstown-Warren, he said. Although he declined to reveal specifics, the director said he had another meeting scheduled for this week on that goal.”
No-one wants to see RTI move their exec offices out of Niles, OH; which means the area is going to try to do everything in their power to keep them from moving. I think that benefits the airport. I believe more and more local communities are going to join the airport’s effort to bring in additional airlines/flights to the Vienna Airport. Bowser noted the SCASD grants have yet to be announced, but that could be a big help in the airport’s efforts as they look to attract a business carrier to fly daily flights 3-5 times a day to Chicago/Charlotte/Atlanta if YNG is awarded the $800,000.
Notes:
CHAT Will be NEXT Monday at 9pm. I was busy the last two nights which could not allow me to have a chat. I hope to have Bowser on the chat on Monday to discuss RTI-SCASD- and possibly get him to say something on his meeting this week with an airline!
Still no SCASD News! Check up daily here.
Search: 27370 - Click Reverse Order - And look for a date in the middle of September that states results. It should be document #722. We will be the first to cover it if it is announced when I am near a computer!
No Chat; SCASD could be announced anyday
No chat this week. It is too hard for me and others to take an hour or 90 minutes out of our nights to come and chat about the airport each and every week. I am going to push for the chat’s to be every 2 weeks and I will try to have Steve Bowser and perhaps a special guest join us to discuss the airport.
The SCASD grants could be announced around Wednesday-Thursday-or Friday this week according to Robert Boyd of AviationPlanning.com. The IRAQ WAR timetable information or what have you is going to be the major topic for stuff in DC, so the end of the week seems like a logical time for the DOT to announce the results. Just a reminder, YNG requested $800k for a legacy carrier to fly business flights to Chicago or Charlotte or Atlanta.
Chat #3 Archive
No Steve Bowser, but a lot of good talk and good questions brought up regarding the SCASD and if the airport is in any active talks with any carrier out there.

SCASD Update, Chat #3 Tuesday at 9PM
Robert Boyd of the Boyd Aviation Group has posted on his website that the SCASD should be announce sometime this or next week. We will of course be looking for the announcements over that period and will probably be the first one’s to inform you guys of the announcement and if YNG got anything awarded.
Tuesday Night at 9pm we will hold our 3rd YNGAIR.COM Chat, the 3rd chat which we attempted to have last week just didn’t work out for a number of reasons, but we will give it a go this week tomorrow night right here on yngair.com. Steve Bowser will likely be in the chatroom tomorrow night. We ask that you please join us promptly at 9pm to get your questions into Steve.
