No Steve Bowser, but a lot of good talk and good questions brought up regarding the SCASD and if the airport is in any active talks with any carrier out there.

[ytown] 9:10 pm: let me start off by saying steve and myself have been chatting quite a bit over the past few weeks and we do enjoy hearing the thoughts of many of you on the airport…. i can’t say what we have in store or what exactly we have chatted about… but we are interested in hearing your thoughts on making the airport better

[KarlB737] 9:11 pm: Steve, does the YNG airport board have a backup plan to target a specific airline in case the Allegiant
thing never expands beyond the YNG-SFB flight?
[ChaseOH] 9:11 pm: I guess I just want to know what we can do; are their things in the works; are they settling for Allegiant’s 2 weekly seasonal flights or is there a reallly agressive campaign in the works.

[YNGATC] 9:12 pm: What happens if YNG doesn’t get the SCASD grant? Will any airline come?
[KarlB737] 9:12 pm: They need to have alternative plans in the works. They need to have an agressive plan if Allegiant were to pull out all together.

[ChaseOH] 9:12 pm: It all just seems the basic Youngstown doom and gloom mentality.
[ChaseOH] 9:13 pm: they need an agressive plan anyway.
[ChaseOH] 9:13 pm: When I see small-town Huntington, WV now has Allegiant FLL service…. what gives?
[YNGATC] 9:14 pm: Is YNG the only city that Allegiant stops service for months?
[KarlB737] 9:14 pm: I thought about that today. I haven’t checked but I wonder if the cities that had these polls BIG TIME with everybody pitching in got the flights. Tyra kinda hinted at that I think……………
[ytown] 9:15 pm: no. quite a few cities either see no service or a drop of 4 to 2 flights per month..
[KarlB737] 9:16 pm: I find that these airport boards keep so many things under raps.

[KarlB737] 9:17 pm: RFD is pretty open about what they are doing. I read all their minutes when they hit their airport site.
[KarlB737] 9:17 pm: They are reaching boy in a big way —— cargo and everything……………..
[KarlB737] 9:18 pm: They are even trying to snag cargo operations for ORD.

[YNGATC] 9:19 pm: Akron-Canton has a nice little cargo operation going on with Castle Aviation flying C208’s

[KarlB737] 9:20 pm: Somehow Steve has to CAPTURE Spirit since it doesn’ t fly to CAK, CLE, or PIT.
[YNGATC] 9:20 pm: Does anyone know what the real reason was to why Northwest( Mesaba) pulled out on YNG a couple of years ago? was it high fuel prices or load factors?
[ChaseOH] 9:20 pm: Yes, we need an airline that is not in this area yet. Spirit would be awesome.
[ChaseOH] 9:20 pm: American Eagle would be great.
[KarlB737] 9:21 pm: Just think a minute if he captured that — think how much of your population might be captured like a magnet.

[ytown] 9:21 pm: NWA had horrible yields here when they left. and very few pax on each flight
[ChaseOH] 9:22 pm: I think it was the small aircraft used, cancelled flights, and times…
[KarlB737] 9:22 pm: Well as I recall it was a screwy route. Wasn’t it DTW to CAK to YNG or something like that with multiple stops?
[KarlB737] 9:23 pm: It was the Mesaba S340
[YNGATC] 9:23 pm: It’s hard to believe that Latrobe, PA has flights to DTW…..too bad they couldn’t make a stop at YNG…..they fly right over the airport every day

[KarlB737] 9:24 pm: Steve, a few months ago Fedex was looking for some property in the area for one of their Fedex Ground
stations. Was there any consideration by the YNG airport of approaching Fedex and offering something
that might be beneficial to both?
[ChaseOH] 9:24 pm: I was on a flight from YNG to ORD on United and when it stopped in CAK the cargo was not put on properly and they had to take the cockpit seats out to get into the cargo hold forcing everyone to miss connections. The flight crew was not very happy wiht the ground crew at YNG.
[YNGATC] 9:25 pm: Has there been any talk of Continental coming back to YNG? They are now flying Dash-8 aircraft to Erie, PA
[KarlB737] 9:26 pm: And flying to where?
[YNGATC] 9:26 pm: CLE
[YNGATC] 9:27 pm: How can Erie support 4 flights a day and YNG not even one round trip?
[ChaseOH] 9:27 pm: We need service that does not stop in CLE, PIT or CAK.
[KarlB737] 9:27 pm: Would there be a demand for that short flight in Youngstown?
[KarlB737] 9:28 pm: I think the problem is that YNG has not proven that it can support flights at this time. Airlines have probably noticed the meager two a week Allegiant run and concluded — well you know what.
[YNGATC] 9:29 pm: Dunno…but I would think that not everyone wants to drive 1-2 hours to catch planes
[KarlB737] 9:29 pm: Now if airlines view RFD or FNT what might they conclude? DEMAND !
[KarlB737] 9:30 pm: YNG HAS TO PROVE ITSELF FIRST…………………
[ChaseOH] 9:30 pm: Are we just posing questions or is someone commenting on what is said here.
[KarlB737] 9:30 pm: And that takes us back to whatever the strategy is in the board room.
[YNGATC] 9:31 pm: Do you guys think the Valley’s pupluation has just gotten used to the idea of driving to CAK, CLE, ERI, and PIT and don’t even consider YNG to be worth it anymore?

[ChaseOH] 9:31 pm: The board needs community involvement, community input, publicity, help from area businesses, Tim Ryan, local governments…… And they have to be AGGRESSIVE and think beyond the airport box.
[KarlB737] 9:32 pm: I got the feeling that your population would pay more for the convience of flying out of YNG but since the service is ABSCENT they are force to the other three.
[YNGATC] 9:32 pm: I would think …cheap parking and no secuirty lines would be a great way to get people to come
[KarlB737] 9:33 pm: I think ChaseOH and I are on the same page. The board needs to step away from the norm and be creative.

[YNGATC] 9:34 pm: I really think if there is a major airline( well known) that comes in with daily service…people will come to YNG…..especially if it’s with regional jets

[KarlB737] 9:35 pm: I agree with the major airline thing however as I said while you were away YNG has to prove themselves which they have not with adequate support.
[YNGATC] 9:35 pm: Erie has shown that it can support both flights to PIT and Philly
[ytown] 9:35 pm: Chicago-Chatrloote-Atlanta are all possibilities
[ChaseOH] 9:36 pm: Charlotte would be great…. I have never made a connection on US Air from CAK connecting in Philly.

[ytown] 9:36 pm: in additoin to the survey conducted by yng for the scasd, this is something we are discussiong perhaps we as a community can push

[ChaseOH] 9:36 pm: More than double the population base of Erie.
[ytown] 9:37 pm: they see 1 of 2 things. lack of work by the airport or average loads/yields
[YNGATC] 9:37 pm: what happen to airlines wanting to expand to new markets anymore? seems like none of them want to take a risk anymore?
[KarlB737] 9:37 pm: I still believe that the YNG nitch will have to be slightly higher fares for the convience of flying out of YNG.
[KarlB737] 9:38 pm: Allegiant wants more profit per flight.
[ChaseOH] 9:38 pm: The Mahoning Valley has seen Pan Am and it’s mess, Vacation Express and Allegiant to see Mickey Mouse. They don’t have faith in the board or the airport unless we nave consistant jet service to places like ORD, CLT

[ChaseOH] 9:41 pm: Why can’t the board open up community input sessions for businesses, people like you Ytown, interested community members. Flights to CLE and PIT will not work here. We need connections to larger hubs.

[KarlB737] 9:47 pm: The question on the table tonight is this: Does the YNG board have a plan to attach to SCASD funds if they got them?
[ytown] 9:48 pm: they have a timeline set to get it all done by next summer.. but that is about it.. no airlines that they can call the day they get the dough

[ChaseOH] 9:49 pm: to me that is not good enough. Where is the agressive plan?

[KarlB737] 9:51 pm: All right I will give them the benefit of the doubt that if they get the bucks they will spring forward with some unannounced plan to capture service for the convience of the Youngstown-Warren population. But if they don’t get the bucks then what is the ALTERNATIVE PLAN?
[ytown] 9:52 pm: i cannnot confirm nor deny anything… steve has made it sound like we will get more flights, but not sure with who

[ytown] 9:54 pm: steve is a good guy, he is extremely understaffed… that is one thing we all fail to realize.. One man cannot run an airport, they need 3-5 people to run it to make it work
