Convenience Will Not Be Overlooked At YNG

The concept of convenience for the population of the Youngstown-Warren area will be a prominent factor when additional flights begin to start arriving at YNG.  This is a topic that yngair touched on a while back.  He and I discussed it at great length back then.  Generally when you consider whether this will have an effect or not the trend of thought aims for not having an impact on passenger attraction.  Connected with that thought is the feeling that three other major airports in the area (CLE, PIT, & CAK) will be a permanent magnet for all passengers because of the abundance of flights that they offer.  Even I have thought this to be true to a great extent and then I have to reflect back as I have watched passengers in droves flock to FNT instead of DTW.  I am now beginning to see passengers who have been speaking out openly in favor of RFD instead of ORD or MSN.  It is these comments that I bring to you today to prove the point which even I find hard to believe.  No matter what you believe or what I or yngair says these are statements from RFD passengers on this very point:

“It’s about time,” she said after the route, which locals have sought for years. “I hope I can come back to this airport. I’m sick of O’Hare.”

“We’re going to be able to visit them more often,” she said. Rockford “is just as close as O’Hare. No traffic, free parking. They just greeted us and brought our baggage in.”

Paul Bloom drove from Madison for the flight, which is an easier trip than flying from Madison..“This is just going to be a little more convenient for me,”

Hector Sotelo was in town to visit his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Chris Bartlett. He was glad to fly from a small airport 15 minutes from his house to a small airport near his family’s house.

“The passengers were all saying it takes forever to get your bags at O’Hare,” he said. “It’s a little more convenient, a lot easier.”

Bonnie Strom drove from Wonder Lake just to get information about future flights. She also said it would be more convenient than flying from O’Hare.

The passengers have spoken.  The local passengers spoke pretty clear during the recent “Rally for YNG” vote.  Convenience will indeed be a positive factor.
