21 WFMJ and Allegiant Air Partner Up

I guess 21 WFMJ took it to heart when I wrote a nasty article on this very site when they did not cover the Airport’s new marketing campaign, as well as how they continue to allow CAK to dominate the airwaves during their newscasts. This morning, I was quite surprised. Allegiant Air was sponsoring a segment of WFMJ today around 6:45am, their top time slot of the morning.

Allegiant Air had a nice 30 second ad promoting Allegiant Air’s service from Youngstown to Orlando with low fares beginning at $79 one way. Let’s hope this ad gets more people in our area to fly Allegiant Air. What we truly need though are radio ad’s on stations in Akron, such as WKDD 98.1 and WDJQ 92.5; which are Akron-Canton’s Hot 101 and 95.9 Kiss-FM. These ad’s would perhaps steal some traffic from CAK, which is a must right now!

As one who works in commercial broadcasting I would stick with the immediate area at this time.  Advertise in all the local newspapers.  Advertise on all the local television and radio stations.  The rates should be cheaper and you will begin at the beginning which is with the people you want to reach.  You want to reach the potential passengers in the Youngstown-Warren area at first and start a momentum going.  By doing this you are attempting first to enlighten the people as to what is available at YNG and secondly start changing their airport selection habits.  After a year of that you can increase the geographic circle a little if you wish.
By the same token the airport is going to have provide and deliver some additional air service to get people to even begin to change their choice of airport.  And after they get it they will have to advertise and promote the service to keep the load numbers up or they will lose the service and will be back to square one.
